Off to Buy a New Crockpot. But Which Should You Buy?

There is always a danger of melting the top, which I did by not removing my inverted lid when I plugged it in and turned it on! It still works, just looks funny. I prefer the glass lids. My glass lid doesn't fit extremely "tight," but I it does fit the area and I would not call it "loose." I...

Coffee Grounds: How And Why We Use Them In Our Garden

Someone posted on this site earlier this month about using coffee grounds on eggplants. I did so and they are really doing much better. I also use Epson Salt on my tomato plants. I honestly cannot remember "why" - I've been doing so for years.

    What won't you buy online?

I am not much of an on-line buyer, except for plants and seeds. Hubby loves to buy online. My electric knife died - after about 30 years - and he bought one for me on-line. It came today and is really nice. I use it to slice the Italian Roast Beef (see my posted recipe) as it is best if sliced...

    Texas Goulash

Geri, Years ago, when we lived in Indiana, I had a miscarriage and was bedridden for awhile. My husband was preaching for a small congregation. One of the members made a big pot of a mixture with ground beef and macaroni. I have tried to find a recipe for that dish for years. I think this is it...

Crock Pot / Slow Cooker Friends

Welcome! I also cook for just hubby and I. However, after years of cooking, I am just about "cooked out"! So, I always cook more than I need so I can be lazy the next day or two. See my recipe for Ranch Chicken - one of Hubby's favorites and great with mashed potatoes.

    Crockpots in the News!

Well, he loves black eyed peas and likes them cooked to death. What about black eyed peas, steak and gravy, and creamy cheese potatoes? Plus, what about using it to cook three different meals and then not cook for the next two nights?

    Crockpots in the News!

Those Mom and Pop restaurants are out there. We have several around here. However, I have to admit, I do not want good home cooking when I eat out - I can get that at home. I go for something I do not usually make. I seldom fry anything, so I love eating fried chicken or fish when we eat out. I...

    Crockpots in the News!

The MSN homepage had an article this a.m. entitled "Spend money to save money: 8 things to buy." Here is a quote from that posting: #5 - A Crockpot Grabbing take-out on those nights you’re too rushed or exhausted to cook dinner can add up fast, and it costs you even more if you’re ordering...

    What, exactly, is autoshift?

I mentioned in one of my postings that I love the auto shift function on my largest crockpot. It seems one recurring question in any discussion about crockpots is, "What exactly is auto shift mode?" Well, I no longer have the directions for my twenty-year-old crockpot. And, if I do, it is put...

Off to Buy a New Crockpot. But Which Should You Buy?

Barbara mentioned that she has one crockpot with three small pots. I Googled crockpot pictures to get an idea of what that looks like. Also, Ruditudi mentioned she has nine, which made me wonder how much difference there could be from one crockpot to another. Wow! There are many different kinds...

The Difference Between a Crock Pot and a Slow Cooker

Okay, so I have three crockpots, but no slow cooker. While reading some postings, I began to wonder, “What is the difference between a crockpot and a slow cooker?” Do I need a slow cooker in my kitchen as well as three crockpots? I did some internet research and discovered the primary...

Here is a picture of my potatoes in the wheelbarrow. They looked much better before the last ninety degree plus days we had this last week.

    Pulled Pork Chile Stew

I struggled to find a name for this creation. Whenever I cook pulled pork, Hubby gets tired of it before it is all gone. I searched the internet for recipes using pork and revised one I found for a Mexican pork stew. The finished product can be served over rice, on buns, or used as a stuffing...

    Potato Tower?

Wow! Great pictures. And you can put a potato tower almost anywhere. Thanks for the pictures. I am heading out to the garden this a.m. and will take some of my wheelbarrow.

    Potato Tower?

I know! Hubby has a large plastic bin outside the fence for packages delivered by UPS and FedEx. He has hit is several times with the tractor, so it has some small holes. He mentioned the other day he is thinking of getting a new one. Guess what the old one will be used for!

    Potato Tower?

Sarah and Barbara, For years, I did not grow potatoes. They are not expensive to buy and take up garden space I would rather use for other veggies. However, I kept hearing about how home grown potatoes were so much better than store bought. So, last year I tried growing them for the first time...

Low Carb Slow Cooker Recipes: French Onion Soup

I am growing three types of onions this year - thirty each of white, yellow, and purple. I plan to try this with the white onions, which are the sweetest. And Theresa, I don't think 2 tsp. of brown sugar will have much of an effect. I love balsamic vinegar and use it on salads all the time.
