Its Time to Order Seed Catalogs Again

You're welcome, Geri K. I tried it once years ago with seeds from cherries and had no luck. I did some research and found most of the fruit trees sold commercially are grafts - meaning the cheery tree, for example is attached to a root base of a sturdier tree that has desired characteristics...

Do you like to cook ahead and put meals in the freezer?

I do use cooking spray on the crock pot before I add anything. It seems to make clean up easier but I am wondering how healthful it is.

Its Time to Order Seed Catalogs Again

Hi Geri, There is actually a trick to it. The seeds have to go through a period of cold just as they would outdoors. Many people collect the seeds, bring them inside to their warm houses, clean them and forget about them. Without the period of cold called stratification, the seeds won't...

Do you like to make gifts for family and friends?

I have made gifts for Christmas every year for the last 20 or years. Sometimes it's kitchen items.. One year I did those meals in a jar - like muffin mixes or soup mixes. They are pretty and useful. I gave those to teachers, the mailman, etc. Some years I have done baskets with homemade cookies...

Do you like to cook ahead and put meals in the freezer?

The liners seem to me to be a thinner plastic than what you normally would see for a freezer bag. I believe they are meant to be disposable. I agree they are somewhat expensive but I suppose that's true of anything that is a convenience item.

I have always had good luck with Henry Fields http://www.henryfields.com/catalog_request and Vermont Bean (which is more than beans) http://www.vermontbean.com/ This year I am going to try buying all heirloom seeds and then saving seeds at the end of the season.

    Do You Buy Organic Foods

It can be challenging to eat a healthy diet these days. Convenience foods and processed foods are loaded with chemicals and preservatives we can barely pronounce. Even fresh produce can be laden with chemicals, pesticides and herbicides, making them relatively unsafe to eat. Because organic...

    Do You Buy Organic Foods

I have been reading a lot about processed foods, chemicals, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, etc and their effect on our bodies and health. A lot of illnesses that are trending now can be traced back to the inclusion of these things in our diet. Diabetes, autism and arthritis are just a...

    Benefits of Low Sodium Diet

There is a lot of information coming to light that says this is just not necessarily true. What is true is that Americans do tend to consume too much sodium because of all the fast food and processed foods we eat. However, sodium is important to the proper functioning of nerve and muscle cells...

    Smart Slow Cooker

What will they think of next? I am content with the models that allow you to program a time factor and then switch to "warm" when that has passed. I can't imagine ever needing to control the crock pot remotely but I guess some have a need! lol
