Steaming Vegetables while Cooking Stew - ALL in the Crock Pot!

I have done the exact same thing. However, I have a rack that is oval and just about the shape of my slow cooker. I use this instead and things steam beautifully. If I'm not mistaken I think that some rice cooker models also have a steamer for fish and veggies. It's a nice convenient all-in-one...

    Question concerning 'The Showcase'

I was wondering if the showcase should be used solely for crock pot cooking? As in, if you have pictures of other recipes using other cooking methods would that be the place to post about them or is it meant to showcase the slow cooker and these methods/recipes? Thanks in advance!

Did you try something new today?

lol That's crazy. I've done the same exact thing and came to the same exact result. I love chicken far too much to let it go. The meat substitutes tasted like spiced sponges. They were the worst. I think the longest I went had to be three months.

    Adapting Recipes for the Crockpot

@RoseThrust Well, I believe, you would reduce the water because the slow cooker works as a steamer. Trapping the water and utilizing it in the cooking process. If I'm making soups and stews and such I normally do not decrease the liquid but wait till everything is done and add a roux. Really...

Did you try something new today?

I make it a point every day to try something new. Be it a food or activity or way I tend to treat people. I try new things. My new thing today was: I danced on a stage in front of MANY people. It was crazy but it was fun. What about you guys?

    Crock Pot Desserts?

Yep, Doms on point. Removing the lid stops the steaming process that keeps the thing you're cooking uber moist. It helps to aerate and crisp the top while leaving the rest moist. It helps to have a period of wait time before serving. Usually 30 min.

    Super Bowl Crock Menu

@HerTasteBuds I know what you mean. Sometimes I use things to stretch recipes and it ends up biting my booty later when I really want to utilize those things. I think repetition is everyone's downfall. The less you repeat, the less it bores those you feed.

Those veggies that yeild MASSIVE stock?

I would love to grow a fig tree. Do you have any suggestions in my bitter cold winter time climate? I'm wondering if there are things I should do to make sure the tree flourishes? Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Electric cars?

With time I think all the issues people have can be settled. One that seems to be most difficult to tackle are charging stations. These need to be more prevalent in order to really sell the concept. There's no reason every gas station could not be outfitted with one. Other than that I have no...

Speed Up Cooking...When Stuck With The Crock Pot

There are a few types of plastic that can withstand high heat situations. The bags are a perfect example. It's hard to throw types at making a slow cooker a fast one. The beauty of the slow cooker is the slow cook.

    What was for brekkie?

What did everyone have for breakfast this morning? I, sadly, had tea. But here's a picture of what I made my god children recently: Bacon n' egg cups! Super easy to make. Circle of bread at the bottom of a muffin tin. Sprinkle of your favourite cheese. Wrap bacon around it. Crack eggs atop...

    Favorite Restaurant!

This is actually a tough one for me. There's not a restaurant I really frequent. I try to go somewhere new as often as I can. Which leads to finding great food or terrible food. Either way it's an adventure. There was a place called Snack Time that existed as I was growing up that I miss and...

What's your favorite brand of cookware?

I love Lodge. But that's really because I love cast iron everything. I hate cleaning them but love cooking with them. They are needy cookware indeed.

Thinking about starting a Once A Month Cooking Club

I think it would be fun if we had a kind of Once A Month Club here on the forum. Someone throws a simple recipe out there and we fiddle with it and post results here. I thought that would be really fun.

    Crockpot BBQ Chicken Recipe

I prefer chicken breast because of the way it shreds when you slow cook it with a sauce. It's just perfect for sandwiches or tacos or whatever you're trying to fill with delicious meat. Nice recipe. Might throw this on this weekend.

Anyone having a crazy time with the weather where they are?

With this East coast blizzard I can only imagine how you guys are faring. You know it's pure insanity that the winter Olympics are warmer than Florida right now! How is everyone doing out there?

Do you use plastic tupperware and containers?

I'm going through the converting phase. I used plastic often as my storage containers. Someone bought me a set that was glass and I fell in love with them The guys in the house microwave in the plastic containers and end up destroying them. I found that Tupperware makes a decent brand.

Those veggies that yeild MASSIVE stock?

The cold in Chicago ends up murdering everything I plant until the spring when I wait and see who will be resurrected and who I have to replant. I understand your frustration. Actually, my neighbour has a VERY successful peach tree. It seems like trees fair better.

My dr. wants me to eat more sugar to expand my stomach

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest you follow the Docs orders. They DO get paid the big bucks for this information. If the problem is that you cannot eat the sugar that is being suggested is it possible you can drink it? Try blending things into a smoothie. Ask the Doc what they...

Having A Hard Time In My Garden

I'd suggest nutrient rich soil. I had the same problem but also that a lot of things refused to grow in my yard. Someone said I had suicide soil and the plants were killing themselves to escape. So, I did what I could. Tossed up the soil I did have and incorporated some I purchased at a...
